Going Poestal

Memorial

Erica and I went to the Holland Memorial Day Parade again this year. I’ve been going since I can remember, and Erica has come along since we’ve been together. My dad is the coordinator of the parade, so we have to go, but it’s always a good time. This year we met up with sister Sarah and her hubby Jeff and my adorable niece Jessica.

Jessica was great. Dancing to the bands, waiving her American flag, plugging her ears when the bass drum passed by.

Erica and I decided to let Sadie join in on the Memorial Day fun. To say the least, she was not as great as Jessica was. She’s still young enough to get overly excited by the sight of other dogs, people, cars, well pretty much anything. She kept choking herself with her collar while she tried to drag me all over the place. On two separate occasions, she was able to pull herself out of her collar, but I caught her before she took off.

After the parade we attend a memorial service for veterans in the cemetary. When we finally decided on a place to sit, Sadie decided to bend a fresh biscuit in the grass. We decided to sit close to it, hoping that others would stay away. One old guy got dangerously close, but fortunately, no one hit it. But since it was about 90 degrees, the loaf found it’s full flavor a little quicker than usual. About half way through the service, we started getting looks.

Hmm, let’s see. Peculiar odor, making a scene in public, people staring with disbelief…Sadie is officially a Poest. –>

The Pistons won tonight! After the Red Wings early departure from the playoffs, I needed the Pistons to win to stave off Detroit Tiger season. Even though the Tigers are already playing, and playing quite well, it just doesn’t seem like baseball season yet. Anyway, back to basketball.

During the game, the sideline reporter sat down with the commissioner of basketball, David Stern. In between Lebron James commercials, he talked about how no one player would carry the league again like Michael Jordan did. While the entire Cleveland Cavaliers team seemed afraid to touch the ball, passing to The Bron (french translation) at any cost, David Stern talked about the high level of play in a strong team environment. While The Bron missed shot after shot, forcing anything towards the basket because clearly no one else on his team is worthly of possessing the ball, Mr. Stern smiled politely and talked about the great city of Detroit and how wonderful the team is for basketball. His eyes were turning brown he was so full of crap.

Not that I blame his affection for the superstar. I mean, it’s business. Big names equals big bucks. The Bron puts butts in the seats, sells jerseys, gets endorsements, increases tv viewers…but Stern kept on. Team this, team that; all the while praying for a The Bron-Shaq eastern final. Mr. Stern, why must you turn the Palace into your house of lies?

Well too bad Mr. Stern. You can see for yourself anywhere in the news: “Detroit sends Lebron packing”, “Detroit turns to defense…”, “Pistons stymie James in 2nd half to Advance”. Detroit, Detroit, Detroit. No Billups, no Hamilton, no Wallace, no Prince (all deserving of accolades). DETROIT! Take note kids, a great team will always beat a great player. The Bron will be doing the same thing over the next couple of weeks as I will, watching the NBA finals from his living room.

The diagnosis is in: canine hypothyroidism.

We found out today that Sadie has a thyroid problem and that she is going to have to take two pills a day for the rest of her life. Our vet had to take blood from her neck and send it to the University of Michigan for testing. She said it was either normal hair loss or hypothyroidism. C’mon, I’m a Poest, of course it’s hypothyroidism.

The good news is that there are rarely any long term side effects, and she should live a long and happy life. One pill at a time. –>

I received my grades in the mail today. I knew for sure that I had an A in my economics class. The one I was worried about was Leadership and Organizational Dynamics. There was only a total of 90 points for the entire semester, and going into the final group presentation, I had already missed several points on various assignments and quizzes. Our group presentation was 30 points. A third of my grade!

I was worried that I was borderline between a B and a C. Which made me really nervous because I need to get a B or better in order to get reimbursed for the tuition.

So I open the letter. Econ - A. Nice. L&OD - A. WHA???

I breathed a sigh of relief and then realized that through two semesters I still have a 4.0. Now I’m determined to finish with a 4.0. Something else to stress about. –>
